International Bronze for Lumineau

The second half of November saw our fencers compete in a number of events. Here are the highlights:

Cadet Epee Grenoble

Three Salle Paul fencers represented Great Britain at the Grenoble EFC competition. 

Solu Ngoka won two matches of six in poules. He was one indicator point from qualifying from the tableau. Tristan Lumineau won five of his six poule matches. After a bye through the 256, he defeated Leo le Franc of France, Rafael Bensa of France, Lucas Enriquez of Spain, Liam Moulin of France, and Noam Duchene of France to make the semi finals. Tristan lost against Rayan Rami Rozpide, 15-13. Zina Suresh's performance in poules did not qualify her for the tableau. 

Congratulations Tristan for a brilliant performance. Thank you Sam for supporting the fencers in France.

FCL LPJS Foil

Ten fencers from Salle Paul attended the LPJS in Rickmansworth on Sunday 26 November. 

In the U9 age group, Edmund Dawson won all five of his poule matches. After his bye in the 32, he defeated Ian Li and Nathaniel Hodge, then was eliminated by Matviiy Holota in the semi finals. Yousif Wagdi also went all up in poules. He had a bye then eliminated Maxi Aitken, Ajith Badhrinath, George Robinson and finally Matviiy Holota in the finals. Salma Wagdi, in the girls event, won four of her six poule matches. She won against Almira Ovchinnikova in the 16 and Wanyue Zheng, but then lost her semi final against Lily Williams. 

Competing in the U13 boys event, Arthur O'Donnell won five out of six poule fights. After a bye through the 32, he beat Hoshen Lernau-Callan and Ethan Li before losing his semi final against Dominik Juras.

Congratulations to Arthur, Salma, and Edmund for their bronze medals, and Yousif for his gold.

LPJS Belmont Sabre

Four Leon Paul Academy fencers entered the LPJS Belmont at the Leon Paul centre on Saturday 18 November. 

In the U11 Boys, Arthur Chen won six and lost three in the two poule rounds. In the tableau, he defeated Rohan Singh and Sam Pearson before being eliminated by Aaron Zhang in the semifinals. Aaron Zhang won seven of his eight poule matches. In the tableau, he defeated Oscar Lu, William Hopkinson, Arthur Chen, and Robson Marsh to come first.

In the U11 Girls, Ariana Rashid won six and lost four in poules. She won her DEs against Ava Ferguson Whyte and Scarlett Chan, before being eliminated by Sophia Chiesa in the semi finals. Sophia Chiesa only lost one of her ten poule matches. She had a bye through the last 16, then defeated Maria Pugachev, Ariana, and Jocelyn Shaw, taking first place. 

Congratulations to Arthur, Charlotte, and Ariana for their bronze medals, and Aaron and Sophia for their gold medals.

LPJS Salle Paul Epee

Five U9 fencers from Salle Paul participated in the event.

Eli Newsome won seven and lost one in poules. He received a bye through the 16, then defeated Henry Warner, Aristide Gourdain, and Manfred Zheng to claim gold. 

Kaeto Ngoka went six and one in mixed poules. In the girls tableau, she had a bye through the last 8, then beat Aicha Diallo and Omeya Dahou in the finals, and placed first.

Cocks Moors Woods Championships

Six fencers fenced in the Cocks Moors Woods Epee championships on November 19.

Ayman Chow also won three of his four poule matches. After his bye through the 32, he defeated Thomas Robinson and Milosz Bekerman to reach the semi final against Ernesto Chiappini, where he lost 15-8. Zina Suresh went three and one in poules as well. She won her DEs against Elsie Downes and Emily Brunellesi, before losing in the semi finals against Katy Hawthorne.

In the senior event, John Prime had five victories and one defeat in poules. He won tableau matches against Aliyu Bashir-Gwandu, Freddy Richmond, Keith Phillips, and George Carpenter to reach the semi finals. He lost his semi final against eventual winner, Josh Burn.

Congratulations to Ayman, Zina, and John for their bronze medals. Thank you to Oana for coaching the athletes at the event.
